Bloomin' Brilliant Afternoon Tea at The Royal Lancaster

As if you need an excuse to book an afternoon tea but, in case you do - here's why.

Long time no speak. Turns out I had a bit of writers block but, that's okay - it happens to us all. All I needed was a little bit of space from the blog, followed by a redesign and some fun content to get my teeth into and boom. I'm back.

So a couple of weeks ago I was invited to a press preview of the Royal Lancaster's Blooming Brilliant Afternoon Tea. With a little bit of inspiration from the prestigious Chelsea Flower Show and the Rose Gardens at Hyde Park in full bloom - The Royal Lancaster has followed suit with a beautiful (& tasty) exclusive afternoon tea. This particular afternoon tea is running from now until late June.

So still plenty of time to get in there, treat yourself and post the photo on Instagram!

Let's talk about the location

This was my first time visiting The Royal Lancaster but my lunch date, Kelly has been a few times before and told me how beautiful it was. Think marble staircases, spacious areas and floral South-West London streets outside. It's a beautiful and peaceful setting.

The hotel itself is known for it's beautiful mid-century architecture and design. Every inch of it is truly decedent and beautiful. We had no problem getting a few Instagram snaps whilst we were there. The natural airiness of the place made for the perfect backdrop.

Located near Hyde Park and helpfully a two minute walk from Lancaster Gate tube station on the Central Line - you can even fit in a little bit of shopping before too. Might as well make a day of it. Am I right?

The afternoon tea itself

The afternoon tea is served in the Hyde Lobby Bar from 2pm until 5.30pm daily until the end of June 2018. The standard price is £35pp but, if you fancy getting a little bit fancy you can also get the afternoon tea with a glass of Moët & Chandon Brut Champagne for £45pp. Or if you're feeling even fancier than that you can get the afternoon tea with a glass of Moët & Chandon Impérial Rosé Champagne for £55pp.

I can 100% vouch for the Moët & Chandon Brut Champagne... I mean is it afternoon tea without a glass of Champagne?

I think the world is divided into two types of people personally, the ones who favour savoury and the ones who favour the sweet. Me? I do love both but, my heart says savoury.

Luckily, like a truly good afternoon tea The Royal Lancaster caters to us savoury types. Not only were the sandwiches and tarts delicious - we were offered a a second plate. I think our waiter could see Kelly and I's preference a mile off.

So like true savoury troopers we polished off two rounds of savoury before getting the the sweet. You've got to make the most of the treat right?

The Menu:

I best get to the most important part really hadn't I? Let's face it, a detailed description of the food is what we're all here for right?

Savoury

The savoury tier included Royal Lancaster home-smoked salmon roses, smoked in a Citrus-Chamomile tea; and Free-range Barradale Farm eggs with wild baby cresses. A Sunflower-seed choux bun filled with Coronation chicken. A bouquet of English Asparagus is paired with sun-blush tomatoes and red amaranth and lastly (the best part!) a warm tart consisting of Somerset brie, Royal Lancaster honey and red onion chutney.

Sweet

A beautifully botanical selection of sweet treats includes a Strawberry tart with lime curd and baby basil; Valhrona chocolate flower pots with crystallised violets; a Lemon and elderflower sable dome; and an Orange blossom and ginger macaron.

& Of Course Scones

Both traditional and raisin scones are served with a Homemade strawberry jam and Cornish clotted cream, plus a nectar-sweet Orange marmalade.

Optional Extras

Either the Moët & Chandon Brut Champagne or Moët & Chandon Impérial Rosé Champagne.

Fun Free Extras

All blooming Afternoon Teas include a ‘Flowering Tea’ for the table, and a packet of bee-friendly seeds to take home and plant.

Treat Yo' Self

Go on. It's summer after all. But, in all seriousness this is one of the most wonderful afternoon teas I've had in a very long time. Everything from the beautiful (on-brand) decor, to the delicious food and drinks to the most important part - the welcoming and friendly staff. The Royal Lancaster has really ticked all the boxes for a perfect afternoon tea.

Plus with the location you can really make a day of it. Start off with a bit of shopping around Oxford Street / Regent Street, head over to The Royal Lancaster and then, lay in Hyde Park and try and nap your food baby off!
